3. Format of the workshop

Students will cover different areas of media coverage – TV, radio, internet. They will look at how to choose a story, and different story telling techniques.  The aim of the workshop is to provide hands-on activities for the students, enabling them to learn key journalistic/ reporting and camera skills, which can then be utilized in the students reporting.

Part 1 - Presentation

The purpose of this section is to look at how to choose a story, examine different story telling techniques depending on what type of media being used, i.e. Tabloid, Broadsheet, Radio, Internet etc. Examine media ethics and how that affects the way a story is told. For example, why does the Sun exist and why is it the top selling newspaper?

Part 2 – Newsroom Activity

Students will engage in a newsroom scenario with a breaking news story.
